Dangers of Substance Abuse

Drug Addict

A 36-year-old young man went on a rampage in a church in a village in this district on the morning of November 10, and was arrested by the police on the same day.

Keningau, SABAH District Police Chief Supt Yampil Anak Garai said the incident occurred while the complainant, who is also the victim, was at the church after the prayer.

He said that the victim was suddenly approached by a man (the suspect) who was rampaging and causing a disturbance in the church.

"In the incident, the 45-year-old victim was punched once in the nose and once in the cheek, causing bleeding in the nose and pain in the cheek." The victim suspected that the suspect was under the influence of drugs and then made a police report," he said when contacted on Saturday.

"The suspect initially prayed with his family and the villagers at the church." After finishing the prayer, the suspect immediately left the church and intended to go home, but suddenly re-entered the church, went on a rampage, and shouted without a shirt before punching the victim," explained Yampil.

Yampil added, the victim knew the suspect who was the victim's nephew. The victim does not know why the suspect acted in such a manner but suspects that the suspect might have taken drugs.

Yampil informed that the investigation papers have been referred to the Sabah State Prosecution Office and the suspect will be charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code on November 19.

He said that after the urine test, the suspect tested positive for drugs.
